For some reason on my Ubuntu 22.04 laptop, when using Chrome to watch YouTube the CPU usage is very high. I don't know if it was like this before or it's a new problem, but I noticed because of a 4k video started to lag. It's like Chrome is not using hardware acceleration for video playback, which is strange, because if I check chrome://gpu/
it clearly says that hardware acceleration is enabled.
Here is a screenshot from chrome://gpu/
:
Currently if I try to play a 4k video the CPU usage will be almost 100%, but on Firefox it's fine. On Firefox the CPU usage is around 5-10%, and the video is not lagging.
Everything on chrome://flags
is on default value. I tried to check in Incognito mode with a new profile or with another Chromium-based browser like Brave, and the result was the same.
Chrome version: Chrome/132.0.6834.83
CPU: 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7
What can I do to solve the high CPU usage on Chrome?
