Background: I met this problem when after a fresh installation of Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS on a DELL Vostro (Intel i5). There is no nVidia nor AMD graphic card.
Problem: When you click the "Log Out" or "Switch User" button on the top right. The screen turns into black screen. The only thing that you can do is to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart the system.
Cause: It seems that this problem is caused by a bug in gdm3, since Ubuntu 22.04 uses gdm3 as the desktop manager instead of the lightdm in the previous version.
Solution: Use lightdm as the default desktop manager.
sudo apt install lightdmsudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
