Ubuntu - Unwanted 2up on A4 paper with apps - lpr prints fine

How can I print the same way lpr prints with Ubuntu apps on this (misconfigured?) system?

On this Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, Gnome Wayland 42.9 with cups installed I can print on a Brother HL2030 fine, when using lpr <filen.pdf>. However, when printing <file.pdf> from the printing dialoge of evince or LibreOffice Writer or similar, the page looks like a 2up that does not fit the A4 page. All jobs look like this. However, if a print a simple one page file with simple text written in LibreOffice, the described phenomenon happens.

I had a look into options in printing dialogue, but did not find anything special. Maybe, you can give me hints, where to search.
