I experienced a hang at various stages during the installation of Ubuntu Server 22.04 and 24.04 on MS Hyper-V (Server 2016 and 2019 versions) as a Gen 1 vm. It initially appeared that the keyboard and mouse input were no longer active but the install was in fact hung. On one install, the 4th attempt managed to complete. Subsequent test installs continued to freeze usually at the screen setting identity, username etc, or when the installer was pulling down from the repos with Curtin.
The solution was to configure the VM with no virtual network adapter and then start the installation. Allow it to complete install and then reboot. Shutdown VM and then add the virtual network with no VMQ.
