Files sidebar directories

I have added directories and sub-directories under HOME which show in the FILES window. These directories and the subs do not show in the sidebar to the left. My understanding is the etc/xdg/user-dirs.defaults file is the source of the system populating that sidebar. When a new user session is initiated, the system edits the ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs file adding the information from that user-dirs.defaults file. So I have edited the user-dirs.defaults adding my directories and sub-directories, BUT those directories still do not show in that FILES sidebar.

Can someone direct me to the best place to make changes for my directories to show in that sidebar?
